Wiosenna, Barciany, 11-410
It is situated about 45 km from Mrągowo (about 45 min drive). The stronghold was erected in Gothic style in the 14th century. This Teutonic castle was built at a small hill surrounded by marshlands, which were later on converted into ponds. The building has rectangle shape in 58 x 55 m size with the round tower, the gothic east wing and the gate. The castle was surrounded by fortifications and a moat. The building has survived till current times in fairly good condition and without dominant towers is a great example of development of Teutonic military architecture. After secularization of Teutonic Knights’ Order, the castle was a headquarters of administrator of the lands and also state own farm’s main office. Next, it was sold to a private investor that wanted to create a hotel here. Unfortunately, the castle is still closed and tourists can admire it only from the outside.
