2 Rynek Street, Nysa, 47-300
The Basilica of St. James and St. Agnes in Nysa is the largest religious building in the city and a valuable monument. Due to the size of the bulding, historical conditions, and bishops buried inside, as well as the existence of a theological seminary until recently, it is commonly referred to by the inhabitants as the Cathedral. It is a decanal church. The interior decoration comes from the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods. Eight bishops of Wrocław were buried in the church. In addition, the heart of Bishop Frederick von Hessen is also here. Therefore, in the temple there is a particularly rich and of exceptional value complex of tombstones from the 15th and 18th centuries, including sarcophagi and epitaphs not only of bishops, but also of numerous other clergy and many knights and townspeople. The church also houses a reliquary with the mortal remains of Blessed Maria Luisa Merkert. On February 28, 2011, the building was recognized as a Historical Monument.
