Information

Iłża is a town located on the road from Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski to Radom. The castle in Iłża was probably built in the years 1326-1347 on the initiative of the bishop of Kraków, Jan Grot. During the Deluge, it was destroyed by the Swedish and Transylvanian troops of Jerzy Rakoczy. It was rebuilt in the 17th century, but at the end of the 18th century it was abandoned and has remained in ruins to this day. The oldest element of the castle is a round tower from the first half of the fourteenth century. Currently, the castle is a protected ruin, open to the public. The castle is looked after by the Regional Museum in Iłża. Museum employees show around the historic ruins of the 14th-century castle, and provide tourists with a tower with an observation deck. Outdoor events, such as knight tournaments, are also often held here.
