Information

The castle in Ciechanów (Polish: Zamek w Ciechanowie )was built at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries by the Mazovian prince Janusz I the Elder. The castle is rectangular in shape and its walls are 10 meters high. In the corners there are two round, round corner towers: south-eastern (prison) and western, called the arsenal (mainly defensive, which is confirmed by the presence of arrowslits and a tar tank). In 2004, the gate in the wall on the southern side of the castle was reconstructed. The castle, which is part of the Mazovian Nobility Museum in Ciechanów, is open to visitors. In the pavilion built in the courtyard, exhibitions about the past of the castle and the region are presented. In the stone courtyard there is a stone commemorating the death of 4 Home Army soldiers hanged on December 17, 1942. Every year in September, "Meetings with history" are organized, during which participants learn about history, admiring knightly tournaments, craftsmanship shows, concerts, dance and vocal performances; they look at weapons, everyday items, furniture and medieval costumes.
