It is situated 60 km from Gdańsk (about 1 h 5 min drive). The most dynamic development of the city took place in the 19th and 20th century, when it rivaled Gdańsk sea harbour. The Old Town, although it was considered as beautiful as in Gdańsk, was destroyed during the Second World War. Luckily, it has been rebuilt in the recent years. Still, in Elbląg we can admire historic urban setup with the castle’s bailey, monastery complex, hospital and the characteristic Church Path with many restored tenement houses. The main historic monuments include St. Michael Cathedral, the Market Tower and the Archeology and History Museum. Other Elbląg’s attractions include the promenade, Elbląg Canal, Elbląg Upland Landscape Park, ski lift and sleigh lift, New Holland Family Amusement Park or Bażantarnia Park. Elbląg is a really charming city really worth visiting.
