Information

The Jabłonna Palace is located in Jabłonna city near Warsaw. It was founded by the bishop of Płock, Michał Jerzy Poniatowski, brother of King Stanisław August. The construction of the palace began in 1774 and lasted until around the mid-1980s. The palace is surrounded by a park, established in the 18th century, with romantic buildings: the Chinese House, the orangery and the Hermit's Grotto. The grotto was built of brick in 1778 according to the design of the architect Szymon Bogumił Zug. According to legend, an underground tunnel began in the grotto, which passed under the Vistula River and led to Bielany. The interiors of the palace are richly decorated, incl. paintings by Szymon Mańkowski and Antoni Tavelli and stucco works by Italian Anotono Bianchi. The palace was burnt down in 1944 and rebuilt after the war. In 1953, Jabłonna was taken over by the Polish Academy of Sciences, which established a conference and recreation center here.
