Information

The castle in Kazimierz Dolny was built on the initiative of King Casimir the Great. The castle consists of two parts: a round tower and the lower castle itself. The tower, commonly known as the "Baszta" or the Łokietek Tower, is a defensive bergfried built at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. It was erected at the height of the Vistula crossing, the so-called Woyszyński Transport. It is located on the top of the hill, about 180 meters from the lower castle and 19 meters above its level. Its height, depending on the location, reaches up to 20 meters, and the circumference at the base is 32.5 meters. The lower castle was built in the 40s of the 14th century. It was to perform fortified functions. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the building was expanded and lost its defensive functions. Its reconstruction was never undertaken. Today, the picturesque castle ruins are a must-see for tourists. The views from the castle walls are truly delightful. There is a souvenir shop in the castle grounds. Various events take place in the castle courtyard, which are often broadcast by television.
