Information

Łowicz is one of the oldest cities in Poland. It is located in the north-eastern part of the Łódź Province. There are many valuable and attractive historical buildings, monuments and cemeteries in the city. The main tourist attraction in Łowicz is the Old Market Square with the historic town hall, the former Primate's Collegiate Church, nowadays (minor basilica) and the museum located in the former, baroque Missionary Priests' Building. At the Old Market Square, there are also historic tenement houses and memorial plaques. Another attraction is the New Market Square - the only one in Poland and one of three in Europe in the shape of a triangle with tenement houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. Also worth seeing are the churches, built in different styles and different periods. Less frequented places, but also attractive ones, are the Tower and Palace of General Stanisław Klicki, the Evangelical-Augsburg chapel, the ruins of the castle of the archbishops and primate of Poland. Łowicz has also an important ethnographic museum (Muzeum w Łowiczu) exhibiting Polish art and historical artifacts from the region. Near the town is the Maurzyce Bridge, the first welded road-bridge in the world, built in 1928 across the river Słudwia.
