Tomaszów Mazowiecki, 97-200
The Blue Springs Nature Reserve is located in the Pilica valley, on the right bank of the river, in the south-eastern part of the town of Tomaszów Mazowiecki. The area of the reserve is 28.70 ha. It was created to protect the picturesque karst springs with a blue tint and to preserve refuges for numerous bird species. This reserve also includes limnocrene springs. Water breaks sand from their bottom, which when seen through the water surface has a unique blue-blue-green color. Its shades depend on the weather, the degree of sunlight or clouds. The water temperature at the outflow sites is around 9 ° C, and in the surrounding basin it ranges from 6 ° C in winter to 11 ° C in summer. There are almost 400 species of plants in the reserve, about 75% of them are common species. The aquatic vegetation is poor, which is mainly related to the thermal conditions of the springs. The reserve is a refuge for about 75 species of birds. Many species of birds winter here, because the water in the reservoir does not freeze.
