Information

Niepokalanów monastery is a Roman Catholic religious community in Teresin. It founded in 1927 by Friar Minor Conventual Friar Maximilian Kolbe. The friars started the construction of a wooden chapel, now the sanctuary of St. Maximilian. The largest monastery in the world was built quickly in Niepokalanów. In 1939, the Immaculate Conception community numbered nearly 700 friars. The only religious fire brigade in the world operates here (it is worth visiting the Fire Museum). In 1938, the Polish Radio 3 Radio Niepokalanów began broadcasting. Today, visitors can visit the unique Museum of Papal Vehicles. Currently, Niepokalanów is one of the most important pilgrimage centers in Poland. The local basilica, the Millennium Panorama or the museum of St. Maksymilian “There was a man” (established in 1998) has already been visited by thousands of individual pilgrims and organized groups from Poland and abroad.
