Information

Opole is a city in the Silesian Lowland, on the Odra River in south-western Poland. Opole is a nice, historic city with a beautiful Old Town, which was located at the beginning of the 13th century by Prince Kazimierz I of the Opole Piast line, known as the Father of Opole. The layout of the Market Square in Opole has not changed since the 13th century. Visitors will see charming, pastel houses and the town hall. There are three most famous churches nearby: the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, the Franciscan Church and the Na Górce Church. The symbol of Opole is the Piast Tower - the oldest watchtower in the city, towering over the Pasieka Island for 700 years. It was built in the 13th century, next to the entrance gate to the Romanesque Piast castle, which unfortunately has not survived to our times. Currently, Opole is associated mainly with the annual Polish Song Festival. The festival takes place every year in the Amphitheater in Opole, built in 1963. Its audience can seat 3,650 spectators. In 2009, the Museum of Polish Song was established in front of the Opole Amphitheater, near the Piast Tower.
