Information

The Opole Philharmonic Orchestra (Polish: Filharmonia Opolska) was established in 1972. In 1969 it was named after Józef Elsner - a Polish composer of German origin and a teacher of Fryderyk Chopin. The Philharmonic is located in a modern facility located in the city center, next to the picturesque Młynówka Canal. The repertoire includes classical music as well as jazz, operetta and popular music, in an excellent edition. The facility hosts many world-famous conductors, composers and soloists. The Opole Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra was hosted in the most prestigious halls in Europe , including: Berlin Philharmonic Hall, Philips Saal in Rotterdam, Teatro Municipale in Piacenza, Verdi Hall in Milan, the historic Herkulessaal in Munich and the Golden Hall Musikverein in Vienna. The orchestra has been invited many times to participate in important events of international importance, such as a special concert in Rome in 2000, where Pope John Paul II's 80th birthday was celebrated or in 2004, where they represented Poland in Brussels during the celebration of the enlargement of the European Union and in Salzburg, commemorating the 3rd anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. In the extended building of the Philharmonic, there is an atmospheric Music Club, where visitors can drink good coffee and feel the soothing influence of music.
