Information

The suspension bridge in Ozimek (Polish: Żelazny most wiszący w Ozimku) is currently the oldest surviving iron suspension bridge. It was made in the years 1825-1827 in the "Malapane" steelworks in Ozimek as one of the first design solutions of this type in the world. Almost 57 tons of cast iron and over 14 tons of steel were used for the construction. It consists of 1600 iron elements, forged by hand. It has survived to our times in an unchanged form, serving as a road bridge, and from the 1970s - a pedestrian bridge. In 2009-2011, the bridge in Ozimek was dismantled and completely renovated due to its poor condition. In 2012, the building was awarded in the prestigious Well-kept Monument competition, in 2014 it received the Footbridge Award, and in 2017 it was entered on the List of Historical Monuments.
