Information

The Pieprzowe Mountains (Polish: Rezerwat Przyrody Góry Pieprzowe) are one of the most beautiful natural places in the Świętokrzyskie region. They are located four kilometers from Sandomierz city and are the oldest mountains in Poland. Their building blocks are 500-million-year-old Cambrian rocks: slates and quartzites, which slowly transform into dark gray crumbs, resembling pepper - hence the name. The Pepper Mountains are famous for twelve species of wild roses. It is the largest concentration of wild rose in Europe and Poland. Of the 25 species of wild roses found in Poland, 12 are found only in the Pepper Mountains. The area of the Pepper Mountains stretches for about two kilometers. Visitors can find there many species of protected plants and also characteristic only for this place. There are routes in the reserve for hiking and cycling tours.
