Information

The Queen Jadwiga Ravine (Polish: Wąwóz Królowej Jadwigii w Sandomierzu) is the most beautiful ravine in Sandomierz. It was created by water that had been flowing down a loess slope for thousands of years. It is less than half a kilometer long and about 15 meters high. The tops of the ravine's walls are covered with deciduous trees whose roots create an unforgettable and very original sight. According to legend, this place was often visited by Queen Jadwiga, who was a frequent visitor to the nearby church of St. James, hence the ravine was named after her. The Queen Jadwiga Ravine was recognized as a natural monument and is under protection. The area of this monument includes the monuments of the Old Town of Sandomierz.
