The Rzeszów Castle is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Rzeszów. In its current form it dates back to 1902-1906 when the local authorities decided to rebuild the run-down castle from ground up. Although the 20th century building is quite modern, its history goes all the way back to the 17th century and the first fortified court built in this very spot. For the most part the castle was by the Lubomirski family and in 1820 when Austrian authorities took possession of the entire castle it lost its residential status and was transformed into a courthouse combined with prison.
