Information

The Shakespeare Festival is one of the largest international events in Gdańsk, devoted to the idea of Elizabethan theater. Its organizers, the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theater and the Theatrum Gedanense Foundation, at the time invite the best Shakespearean performances and the most outstanding theater artists from around the world. The festival is organized every year at the turn of July and August. Theatrical performances take place at the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theater and on the stages of other Tri-City theaters. Accompanying performances of the ShakespeareOFF trend take place at the Teatr w Oknie, as well as in the city space and in the outdoor spaces of the Shakespeare Theater (courtyard, terrace, walls). The aim of the festival is to present and popularize the achievements of the British playwright. The performances are accompanied by meetings with their creators: directors, actors and playwrights. As part of the festival, an educational program is organized, called the Summer Shakespeare Academy, which is aimed at high school students and students of art schools. At the end of the festival, a street parade is organized. Actors, huge puppets, stilt walkers and other artists walk along with the inhabitants of Gdańsk along a colorful parade through Długa Street and Długi Targ to the Lower Town.
