Świdwin is situated 112 km from Szczecin (about 1 h 35 min drive), 52 km from Kołobrzeg (about 50 min drive) and 68 km from Koszalin (about 1 h drive). The castle, although initially a Gothic stronghold, built in the 13th century, in the 18th century was rebuilt in a Baroque style by knights of St. John. Still, they were not the only owners of the castle and among the most famous owners were also the Teutonic Knights. Unfortunately, in 1945 the castle was plundered and burned. Currently, after reconstruction we can find here a museum and a culture centre. In a Gothic wing we will also find an auditorium for 200 viewers, a historic knights’ chamber and a pub. The castle can be visited in groups and with a guide. Tourists can also climb the castle’s tower. Moreover, groups can order knight shows and knight’s competitions. The castle is also a venue of cyclical cultural events such as the Battle for a Cow (knights’ event) or the Poetic Contest. Świdwin castle is a place worth visiting especially during cultural events.
