Information

The Museum of Zakopane Style (Polish: Muzeum Stylu Zakopiańskiego, Zakopane) is a division of the Tatra Museum in Zakopane, and a museum of Zakopane style. It is located at the oldest street in Zakopane - Kościeliska Street, in Willa Koliba. Willa Koliba is one of the most valuable monuments of folk architecture in Zakopane. The oldest part was built around 1830, and its present condition is the result of the expansion that took place at the end of the 19th century. The exhibition is located in two front chambers of the hut - the White Chamber and the Black Chamber. The white chamber was a "festive" place, with a table and nice utensils that were used only in exceptional circumstances. Collection from Maria and Bronisław Demboski is exhibited here. This set of nearly four hundred items includes glass paintings, ceramics, spoon-holders, sculptures, outfits and shepherd items, while possessing unusually decorative form and rich ornamentation. Everyday life was going on in the black chamber. Its furnishings include the oldest exhibits from Tatra Museum collections. The Museum of the Zakopane Style is the only place in Poland where visitors can learn about the history and achievements of the first concept of the Polish national style, based on the construction and ornamentation of the Podhale highlanders.
