The Old Mine Science and Art Center in Wałbrzych (Polish: Centrum Nauki i Sztuki Stara Kopalnia w Wałbrzychu) is located on the site of the former Julia Coal Mine ("Thorez"). It was opened on November 9, 2014, after a thorough expansion of the Museum of Industry and Technology located in this place since 1999. The museum includes the oldest and the largest preserved complex of mining industrial buildings from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries in Wałbrzych. In the Center there is:
• Industry And Technology Museum - here, visitors learn about the history of coal, mining and miners working in extremely dangerous conditions, see mining machines and their components, souvenirs related to the activities of Wałbrzych mines, as well as audiovisual materials and a collection of archives;
• Contemporary Art Gallery - presents exhibitions of outstanding personalities of art; they are shows of painting, photography, graphics, drawing, as well as less traditional forms of art;
• Unique Ceramics Center - offers individual and group ceramic and pottery workshops;
• Guest Rooms and Café
The tour takes place daily from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. (last admission is at 4.00 p.m.)
