Information

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima in Krzeptówki in Zakopane is the most important center of the cult of Lady Fatima and one of the oldest (after Turza Śląska) Fatima sanctuary in Poland. It is located about 2.5 km south-west of the center of Zakopane, at Krzeptówki Street. It was built as a thanksgiving for saving the life of Pope John Paul II after the attack on May 13, 1981. The main object in the sanctuary complex in Krzeptówki is the church of Our Lady of Fatima. A bell donated by John Paul II was hung at the top of the belfry. A rosary donated by the Pope and a photo of the Holy Father are embedded in the foundations of the church. A Miraculous Medal was walled up under each brick placed on the foundations. Next to the church there is a chapel , existing since the 1950s. It houses a statue of Our Lady of Fatima, donated by the Primate of Poland, Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński. In the so-called "Fatima Park", in the area of the sanctuary there is an altar where John Paul II celebrated mass in Zakopane near Krokiew on June 6, 1997. In 2005, a chapel commemorating the death of John Paul II was consecrated. Currently, the sanctuary is a place of constant prayer for Pope Francis.
