18 Obrońców Pokoju Square, Opatów, 27-500
One of the most interesting places in the Opatów region is the Underground Tourist Route (Polish: Podziemna Trasa Turystyczna w Opatowie). The famous cellars of Opatów, from the Middle Ages on, and especially in the 16th and 17th centuries, served as merchants' warehouses, because Opatów was located at the crossroads of great trade routes. The extraordinary tour through the underground corridors and rooms takes approximately 45 minutes. During the guided tour, visitors will learn about the history of the underground and Opatów and its monuments, as well as see exhibitions - mainly on regional topics. Currently, the Underground Tourist Route of Professor Zbigniew Strzelecki in Opatów is about 500 meters long and consists of three levels, the lowest of which reaches 14.5 meters below the market square. The temperature in the basement is constant - from about 8 to 12 degrees Celsius.
Please note that ITS-Poland works with groups only (10 participants and more).
