2 Zamkowa Street, Żywiec, 34-300
The castle was built in 1485-1500 at a place of a former, destroyed, Medieval stronghold. In 1567 a new Renaissance courtyard was built and the whole building gained a new Renaissance character. In the 18th century the building was once again rebuilt and from a stronghold it become a residential building with new palace characteristics. Currently, the Old Castle is a headquarters of the Town’s Museum where tourists can find ethnographic exhibitions and exhibitions devoted to history, culture, natural environment of Żywiec town and Żywiec region. In the museum and in its surrounding (in beautiful Żywiec Park) tourists can also admire miniatures of the most interesting buildings in the area from period between the 15th century and the World War II. The Old Castle in Żywiec is really worth visiting.
