Many plants and animals catch interest of tourists. Still, to become tourist attractions they cannot be ephemeral. This is for example why we won’t write about flowers as they vanish too quickly but we will mention monumental trees; the same rule applies to animals, we won’t write about butterflies, although they add enormous value to beauty of Polish scenery but we will write about European Bison enclaves, as they guarantee presence in a given time and place for our tourists.

Polish plants and Monuments of Nature (Pomniki Przyrody)

When it comes to Polish plants the most important group here are monumental trees called “Monuments of Nature” (Polish: Pomnik Przyrody). There are more than 25 thousand of them in Poland and they represent mainly common species in Poland such as oaks and linden. In this group we can also find rarer species such as for example yew-tree (the most famous complex of them can be found in Wierzchlas in natural reserve Cisy Staropolskie). The most important factors why trees are enlisted as Monuments of Nature its their size and age. The biggest number of such precious trees in Poland can be found in Białowieska Forest (Polish: Puszcza Białowieska). The complex is e nlisted at natural UNESCO World Heritage List as the sole natural element from Poland. The biggest oak in Poland is “Car” Oak (English: Tsar) near Topiło village but it is hard to get near it, this is why the best well known tree in Poland is “Bartek” Oak (English: Bartholomew) near Kielce city. Rogalin Palace with park is also very famous for its oaks. The other famous tree is a redwood in Glinna village near Szczecin. Another interesting plant attraction is Azalea Reserve in Wola Żarczycka. The list of interesting plant species being tourist attractions also includes: the redwood in Dobrzyca; the yew trees in Goraj, Herbutowice, Mogilno and Henryków Lubański; the oak in Kadyny and Piotrowice and the linden in Kliniska Wielkie.

Polish animals

Polish animals that are the biggest Polish attraction are definitely Polish bisons. For tourist and breeding purposes they are often kept in demonstration farms. Still, the majority of European Bisons in Poland live free in big forest complexes such as Puszcza Białowieska (Białowieska Forest), Bieszczady Mountains, Puszcza Borecka, Puszcza Knyszyńska and woods near Wałcz town. Tourists usually observe these magnificent animals in demonstration farms in Białowieża, Borki, Niepołomice, Pszczyna, Smardzewice (Książ), Taczanów Forest Inspectorate and Wolin National Park .

Another interesting animal attraction is Stawy Milicke area (English: Milickie Ponds). There are is 5.3 thousand hectares. They are artificial lakes that create the biggest pond-meadow-lake complex in Europe. It as an enclave of many species of migrating birds.

Of course other Polish animals and plants can also be observed in 23 National Parks.

Summing up, Poland is very rich in old and huge monumental trees that are called “Pomnik Przyrody” (Monuments of Nature) that are interesting specimens of various trees. Observing them is a good attraction if your group happens to be in their vicinity. Moreover, it is really worth to see European Bisons that can be spotted in many parts of the country and are true offspring of bisons that inhabited almost all Europe ages ago. ITS Poland travel agency happily helps to plan the best trips and tours to particular parts of Poland enabling seeing also these natural phenomena.
