Arthropod Butterfly Museum in Bochnia

Information

The Arthropoda Butterfly Museum is the largest permanent exhibition of butterflies in the world in Poland, with over four and a half thousand specimens from all zoographic zones. It is a private museum based on the butterfly collection owned by Jacek Kobiela. Currently, the museum and the collection are managed by his son, Filip Kobiela. The specimens come from the museum owners' travels in Europe, Africa and the Americas, and have also been given to or as a deposit by other collectors. It presents species whose appearance and biology illustrate various natural phenomena. The classification of butterflies is based on the taxonomy of Linnaeus, who introduced the Latin names of the biological species. The museum organizes unique science lessons for children, adolescents and adults, as well as people who want to deepen their knowledge of nature. Each visitor can reach for a magnifying glass and see in detail the fascinating world of colors, shapes and sizes of the specimens gathered here. Another attraction of the exhibition are macro-photos of butterfly wings and beetle heads. The exhibition, which is constantly growing, includes, besides butterflies, also other arthropods such as beetles, cicadas, praying mantises, scorpions, bugs, spiders and over 250 million years old Trilobites.

Please note that ITS-Poland works with groups only (10 participants and more).
