Information

The Artistic Foundry Department is located in the former engine room of the Gliwice Coal Mine, built in 1912-1914. The permanent exhibition offered in the department is one of the first modern, interactive and multimedia museum exhibitions in Silesia. It presents rare relics from a rich collection of artistic cast iron. The main part of the exhibition by Mirosław Nizio consists of four cubes (museum display cases) referring to the shape of metallurgical furnaces. They include exhibits and multimedia presentations on the history of artistic casting in Gliwice and the history of metallurgy and industry in Silesia. The exhibits include artistic castings, mainly 19th-century products of the Royal Iron Foundry in Gliwice, as well as 20th-century casts, complemented by rich iconographic material and specialist commentaries, e.g. on the history of artistic casting in Gliwice, the development of industry in the 19th century, the revolutionary role of cast iron, but also the history of the region and the city itself. The idea behind the creation of the Museum was to remind about the foundry traditions of Gliwice. The Artistic Foundry Department is located on the Industrial Monuments Route of the Silesian Voivodeship.
