The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Haczów is one of the oldest and largest Gothic wooden churches in Europe. It was probably erected after 1459 and was gradually expanded over the centuries. It was built of larch and fir trees. It was erected on a stone foundation, the roof and walls were covered with shingles (wedge-shaped wooden boards). It has rich painting and sculptural decorations. You will see there, among other things, most likely the oldest Gothic figural polychrome from 1494. These polychromes were discovered in 1955 when parishioners moved the altars to a new church built next to it. In addition to the characteristic paintings, there were other valuable monuments, such as the Baroque main altar from the end of the 17th century (which is now in the new church), Gothic sculptures from the 15th century, the most valuable of which is the pieta, dating back to around 1400 (the original also is in the new church, there is a copy in the old church), a stone baptismal font and gothic portals. The church was included in the wooden architecture trail of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship. In 2003, the site was also entered on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
