Information

Bartek is a natural monument near Kielce and one of the oldest oak trees in Poland. According to the most recent studies Bartek is 690 years old (in 2020), however, researchers in the past claimed the tree was up to 1,200 years old.
Although the tree is not dead yet, it is sadly in a rather poor state. Only eight of its fourteen main branches remained to this day and all of those have to be supported from ground up to minimise the risk of tree falling down or its trunk breaking.
A legend has it that the Polish King Jan III Sobieski buried war trophies under the tree upon his return after defeating the Ottoman Empire in the Battle of Vienna in 1683.
