Information

The castle in Głogówek in the Opole region is a beautiful, imposing building, but in a severely damaged state. Its origins date back to the second half of the 13th century, when the first brick stronghold was built here. At the beginning, the castle was the property of the Dukes of Opole, and in the mid-16th century it was taken over by members of the aristocratic Silesian Oppersdorff family, in whose hands it remained until the end of World War II. During their reign, the stronghold was expanded and enlarged several times. After World War II, the castle was taken over by the state, which established a youth hostel there. Years of neglect have led to significant devastation of the property, which has not been renovated so far. At the moment, the castle is not open to tourists. The castle in Głogówek consists of two parts, both in the shape of a horseshoe. The upper castle has three floors, and the lower one - two. In the upper part there are two towers topped with cupolas, and in the northern wing there is a neo-Gothic tower with battlements. The whole area is surrounded by a historic park, behind which there is a Franciscan monastery with a Loreto house, and on the other side, the castle gate.
