Ciężkowicki Waterfall (Waterfall of Witches)

Information

The Czarownic Waterfall is located in the small town of Ciężkowice in the Lesser Poland Province. It is located exactly in the Ciężkowicki Gorge, which is an extension of the blue trail leading through the Fossil City Reserve. The waterfall has a stepped structure and has two thresholds made of heavy sandstone. Its height is 14 m. From the ravine, only the lower ridge is visible, the upper part of the waterfall is invisible. The amount of falling water is small, sometimes the stream dries up altogether in the case of longer droughts. However, the height of the waterfall and the bare rock walls of the ravine are impressive. The waterfall looks particularly impressive after heavy downpours. In winter, an icefall forms on it. The name of the waterfall is related to the legend according to which witches and devils celebrate their Sabbaths in this gorge.
