Information

The Castle in Dębno is a grand residence that is considered a pearl of Polish architecture from the late Gothic period. The building was erected in the years 1470-1480, on the order and money of the Grand Chancellor of the Crown and the castellan of Kraków, Jakub of Dębno of the Odrowąż coat of arms. In 1586, the castle was renovated in the Renaissance style, and at the end of the 18th century, baroque elements were added. A part of the northern wing was also added and a chapel erected on the eastern side of the castle was demolished. Until today, the building has survived almost unchanged since its inception. The original structure of the walls, the old interior layout and some of the impressive decorations have been preserved. Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque portals attract attention. The building was erected primarily for representative purposes. It consists of four parts connected by a wooden porch. The walls of the castle are decorated with stone reliefs with floral and geometric motifs and coats of arms. Currently, the castle offers for sightseeing richly equipped rooms: a kitchen, a vineyard, a pantry, a living room or a chapel. The exhibitions include military items, torture tools, antique kitchen utensils and appliances, decorative furniture, tapestries and paintings made in various techniques. The castle is a showcase of the Dębno Commune and a place of numerous cultural events. The most famous of them is the annual Knight's Tournament for the Golden Tarlow Braid.
