Information

The European Route of Brick Gothic connects the cities that belonged to the Hanseatic League and runs through three countries - Germany, Denmark and Poland. Gdańsk, one of the most important cities of the medieval, powerful Hanseatic League can still boast of many fascinating monuments of Gothic architecture, despite the enormous war damage. The most important building in this style is St. Mary's Church. It is the largest facility of this type in the world. It is 105.5 meters long, 66 meters wide in the transept, the vault is 30 meters high, and the interior can accommodate approximately 20,000 people. Other sacred buildings are also interesting: the Church of St. Nicholas, the Church of St. Catherine, or the Oliwa Cathedral. In total, there are over a dozen Gothic churches in Gdańsk. On the route of Gothic buildings, the symbol of Gdańsk, located on the Mołtawa River, the Crane, could not be missing. At one time, it served both as a port crane, and also served as a city gate with unusual architecture. A brick Gothic monument worth seeing is also the Great Mill, which was built by the Teutonic Knights on the Radunia Canal in the mid-fourteenth century. In addition, on the European Route of Brick Gothic in Gdańsk you will find: the Artus Court, the Main Town Hall, the Foregate Complex of Długa Street, the former Gothic Franciscan monastery, and many others.
