Information

Grodno Castle is located in the Black Mountains, on the top of Choina Hill, in the northern part of the Sowie Mountains, and rises above the Bystrzyca Świdnicka valley. The origins of the medieval stronghold in this place date back to the times of the Silesian Piasts. Probably its first owner was Bolko I, although there is no certain evidence of this. At the end of the 16th century, the castle was rebuilt into a Renaissance residence. Today, Grodno Castle is one of the most important and best-preserved strongholds in Lower Silesia. In the castle, visitors can see many of the preserved medieval walls, as well as some of the surviving Renaissance rooms, and the view extending from the castle tower is one of the most beautiful in the area. The lower courtyard of Grodno Castle is accessible free of charge, the tourist route leads through the upper castle and can only be walked with a guide, which is included in the ticket price. On the route around Grodno Castle there are: gatehouse, chapel building with a Renaissance portal, castle hall, torture chamber, penitential crosses, princess Margaret's dungeon, upper courtyard, knight's hall, hunting hall, prince's halls and a wet room. In the castle there is also a Multimedia Bioeducation Center with a modern multimedia room dedicated to the nature reserve "Góra Choina" and a cinema room. Grodno Castle is a place of numerous cultural and tourist events. The most popular events at the castle are the "White Lady" National Amateur Film Festival in August and the Princess Agnieszka's Fair in May.
