Information

The Hipolit House is one of the branches of the Historical Museum of the City of Kraków, located at St Mary's Square in Kraków. It owes its name to the merchant family of Hipolit, who owned it in the 17th century. The building was rebuilt many times and after a thorough restoration, it was handed over to the museum in 2003. The branch was opened in the same year. It houses a permanent exhibition entitled The Townsmen's House. The museum occupies two floors of the house. The exhibition shows the way of life of Krakow's burghers throughout history. The appearance of domestic rooms from different eras has been recreated in the building. On the first floor you will see an 18th-century apartment: a study, a bedroom, a living room and a collector's room. On the second floor there is a family apartment from the end of the 19th century - a hall, a young lady's room, a grandmother's room, a parents' bedroom, a dining room and a living room. In addition to the permanent exhibition, you can visit temporary exhibitions presenting the work of Krakow artists of the 20th century and topics related to the everyday life of Krakow residents over the last two centuries. A specific mascot of this place is the cat Hipolit, known to residents and tourists.
