Information

The Historical Museum in Sanok was established in 1934. It is located in the Royal Castle in Sanok, and in the building at Zamkowa Street from the end of the 18th century. The museum collects over 20 thousand archaeological and historical exhibits, works of old and modern art. The most important are permanent exhibitions, incl. Orthodox art, Pokutty pottery, armory, Zdzisław Beksiński Gallery. The collection of church art includes over 1,200 exhibits, including icons and liturgical items from Orthodox and Greek Catholic churches from the present-day areas of south-eastern Poland and Ukraine. It is one of the most beautiful and largest collections of Orthodox art in Poland. The Hutsul ceramics collection has over 500 exhibits and is one of the largest in Poland. Its author is Aleksander Rybicki, who donated it to the museum in 1978. The pride of the Historical Museum in Sanok is the largest in the world - with about 600 works - an exhibition presenting the works of Zdzisław Beksiński. The exhibition includes sketches, drawings and graphics from various periods of the artist's creativity. The whole is complemented by the music of the painter's favorite composers and a multimedia projection. Other exhibitions devoted to military and military technology, painting and archaeological monuments are also worth mentioning. The Historical Museum in Sanok is one of the most visited ones in the region. In 2019, it was visited by about 80,000 tourists.
