Mechowo Caves (Polish: Groty Mechowskie) are situated in Mechowo village about 60 km from Gdańsk (1 h drive). The caves have electric lights and are available for tourists. Mechowo caves are extremely unique geological objects as they were created in deposits of the last ice sheet that covered north of Poland. The cave has a few entrance halls and also very typical sandstone pillars. There are also drip stone forms such as for example stalactites and some of them have charming red veins and shades. Tourists can only visit entering part of the cave (the rest 61 m corridors are available only for speleologists) so, sightseeing takes a few minutes only. Still, it is a very unique form worth visiting if you happen to be in this area. The caves are also a great site for children who usually are happy to run among low ceilings and pillars.
