Information

The Museum of Coins and Medals of John Paul II in Częstochowa was established in August 2011, on the initiative of Krzysztof Witkowski, a businessman and philanthropist from Częstochowa. The museum is located in a modern building, 5 km from Jasna Góra Monastery. The presented collections contain over 11,000 exhibits, including 2,000 coins. About 1,500 are coins with the image of the Polish Pope. One of the decorations of the exhibition is a coin with a face value of 200,000 zlotys, from 1987, issued in only 5 copies, and a coin from Haiti, from 1983. The largest of the presented coins have a diameter of 140 mm and weigh up to a kilogram. The smallest ones are golden, weighing half a gram. Another treasure of the museum is the collection of medals. In addition to gold, silver, bronze and brass, visitors will see medals made of baked clay, porcelain, crystal, and coal. 49 pilgrimage medals are of particular value. The Pope handed them over personally during his travels. In addition to the title coins and medals, the museum has other memorabilia related to the person of John Paul II. These include a collection of postage stamps as well as photos and images. In the museum building there is a cafe, a souvenir and numismatic shop, as well as a music stage with professional sound system and lighting.
