Information

The Museum of Match Manufacturing in Częstochowa is the only active match museum in Europe and the oldest match factory in Poland. It was established in 1881, by two German entrepreneurs, Karol von Gehling and Julian Huch. It has exhibitions: in two exhibition halls and in an operating production plant - Częstochowskie Zakłady Przemysłu Zapałczanego SA, using a technological line from the 1930s. Visitors to the museum will have the opportunity to see here the historic machinery park and follow the entire production cycle, from debarking the wood to making sticks to packing matches into boxes. The production technology has not changed in practice from 1913 to the present day. In the main room, there are documents related to the match industry and the permanent exhibition of Sculptures from a single match by Anatoly Charles. In the second one there is a philumenist exhibition, which displays the labels of matchboxes from the interwar period, as well as from the post-war and modern times. Until 2010, the factory produced matches from the popular Black Cat series, as well as non-standard matches - grill, fireplace, storm and advertising matches. The museum is located on the Industrial Monuments Route of the Silesian Voivodeship.
