Information

The Museum in Markowa is the first museum in Poland that deals entirely with the subject of saving the Jewish population in occupied Poland during World War II. The museum commemorates Poles who saved the lives of Jews doomed to extermination. It was named after the Ulma family. Józef Ulma, his wife Wiktoria and their six children were murdered by German gendarmes on March 24, 1944, along with eight Jews whom they were hiding. Other Poles in Markowa managed to save 21 Jews. The heart of the exhibition is the phantom of the home of Wiktoria and Józef Ulma. It houses a living room, a vestibule and a carpentry workshop. There are also mementoes of Ulma: furniture, books, school reports, and above all, numerous photographs taken by J. Ulma himself. The exhibition is modern - interactive and multimedia, allowing you to get to know it in an individual way. It is accompanied by inscriptions in three languages: Polish, English and Hebrew. The main exhibition of the museum shows the known and documented cases of helping Jews in the present Podkarpackie Province, emphasizing the compassionate and self-sacrificing attitude of Poles towards the suffering of Jews during World War II. The museum is a place of meetings and cultural and scientific exchange on the subject of Polish-Jewish relations. Educational workshops for children, adolescents and adults take place here, as well as study visits of representatives of domestic and foreign research centers.

Please note that ITS-Poland works with groups only (10 participants and more).
