Information

The Synagogue Complex in Włodawa is a unique complex of three post-Jewish buildings in Poland, which belonged to the Włodawa kehilla (the Jewish commune). It is made up of:
- the Great Synagogue ("bet ha-knesset", in Hebrew a house of assembly), built in the years 1764-1774 with the community's financial resources and the funds of the Czartoryski family, -
- the Small Synagogue ("bet ha-midrash", in Hebrew the house of study and prayer) built at the end of the 18th century;
- the Pokahalny House (new bet ha-midrasz), from 1928.
Since 1983, the above-mentioned monuments are the seat of the Museum-Synagogue Complex in Włodawa. The museum has four departments: ethnographic, historical, promotional and educational and administrative. The ethnographic department deals with, among others organization of exhibitions presenting local folklore and folklore of exotic cultures. The historical department collects relics and documents related to the history of Włodawa and the region. Judaica is a large part of these souvenirs. The promotion and education department deals with the promotion of the region. One of the most important achievements of the institution in this area is initiating and conducting a cyclical event commemorating the multi-ethnic and multi-religious history of the city - the Festival of Three Cultures.
