Information

The Teutonic castle is one of the oldest and most interesting monuments in Ostróda. The construction of the castle began in 1349. It was supervised by Gunther von Hohenstein. A characteristic feature of this castle was the lack of towers. Over the years, the castle was burned and rebuilt several times. The reconstruction of the castle began very late, after many years, specifically in 1974. Currently, the castle is the cultural center of the city. The castle also houses a museum with 3 exhibition halls. As part of the permanent exhibition there is an exhibition entitled "From the history of Ostróda and the surrounding area", covering the history of these lands from prehistory to modern times. Most of the exhibits come from the excavation work carried out during the reconstruction of the castle in the 1970s. The museum also presents two models of Ostróda, showing the appearance of the city in the 16th and early 20th centuries. Visiting is possible on all days of the week, except Monday.
