Information

The Old Synagogue in Pińczów is one of the oldest synagogues in Poland and the oldest, where all rooms form a uniform, compact body covered with a common roof. It was built at the end of the 16th century in southern Mirów, made of broken stone on a rectangular plan. Particularly valuable in the synagogue in Pińczów are fragments of polychromes. They come from the 18th century. They mainly depict animal and plant motifs, incl. unicorns, griffins, peacocks. There are also remains of Hebrew inscriptions on the walls. Since 2005, the main hall has been decorated with two stained glass windows brought from Heidelberg. They were created by the artist Jacek Nowak, and they present hundreds of faces. In the 1970s, the synagogue was turned into a museum. It is looked after by the Regional Museum in Pińczów. It presents an exhibition of Judaica and photographs showing the Jews of Pińczów.
