Information

The Railway Museum in Silesia is located in the oldest railway junction in Lower Silesia. It covers an area of over 2.5 ha of open space. The basis of the Museum collection is the historic standard-gauge railway rolling stock from the years 1890 to 1972. The museum's collection includes 40 steam, diesel and electric locomotives, 50 wagons and other specialized vehicles. They were produced in Poland, Germany, Great Britain and the United States. In addition to the rolling stock, the exhibitions also feature industrial machinery and equipment, a railway model, a collection of car toys and an exhibition showing the resettlement of Poles after World War II. On all weekends, the Museum organizes rides in historic rolling stock. The permanent exhibitions of the Railway Museum in Silesia present the history of railways and railway technology from the nineteenth century to the period of the Polish People's Republic. The museum organizes cyclical events, such as the Industrial Monuments Festival, Diesel Fest and the most important event in the calendar, the Steam Engine Gala - international rallies of historic locomotives, with active, historic steam locomotives from Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany. The main goal of the Museum is to protect and promote the heritage of technical culture in Silesia as well as didactic and scientific activities.
