Information

St. Michael Archangel's Church in Brunary is a Gothic, wooden church located in the village of Brunary from the eighteenth-century. In 2013, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List along with other wooden churches in Poland and Ukraine. It is located on the wooden architecture route of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. The church in Brunary is a Lemko church with three parts. Above the vestibule there is a tower with a cupola topped with a forged cross. Inside, there is a baroque, eighteenth-century iconostasis. In the church, a polychrome has been preserved, covering the entire ceiling and internal walls of the building, made in stages between the 18th and 19th centuries, in a blue color scheme with a vine motif. Apart from the main altar from the 17th century, there are two side altars from the 18th century in the church. There are icons of the Mother of God and the Transfiguration of the Lord in them. Currently, the church is used as the church of the Roman Catholic parish of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Assumption in Brunary, belonging to the Ropa deanery of the Tarnów diocese. The temple is surrounded by a stone wall from 1830.
