Information

The Church of Saint Michael the Archangel in Dębno is the only building in Podhale entered on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is also on the trail of wooden architecture of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. It was built in 1490. It is one of the best preserved Gothic wooden churches and at the same time one of the most famous Polish monuments in the country and abroad. As the only wooden church, it was nominated in the competition of seven wonders of Poland. The walls of the church are decorated with unique paintings from the inside - polychrome from the 15th-16th century, containing geometric and floral motifs in a band arrangement. It is the best preserved polychrome of this type in Poland. It is made in 33 colors and contains as many as 77 themes in 12 layouts. Inside the church visitors can see, among others, late gothic triptych in the main altar from the beginning of the 16th century, a historic cross from 1380, unique cymbals from the 15th century and a tabernacle from the beginning of the 14th century.
