Information

The synagogue in Rymanów is the second oldest synagogue in Podkarpacie and one of the oldest in Poland. It was built at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. It is one of the main monuments of the region, located near the Market Square, between Bieleckiego, Kilińskiego and Piękna Streets in Romanów. Built of river stones, sandstone and bricks, it was integrated into the system of the city walls of Rymanów. In the north-west corner of the synagogue, a circular tower was erected, and its basement could serve as a prison for Jews. The synagogue is oriented. The inner walls of the temple were richly decorated with paintings and inscriptions in Hebrew. Inside the synagogue there is a bimah, supported on four brick pillars, where the Torah was read. During World War II, the Nazis established warehouses in the synagogue; first the property stolen from Jews, and then grain. The synagogue equipment was plundered, and the holy books were burned. The temple suffered as a result of the war in 1944, after the war the roof was pulled down, which resulted in the rapid devastation of the synagogue. In 1957, even elements of brick buildings were demolished. Today, the synagogue in Rymanów is, next to the cemetery, the most important place of remembrance of the Jews from Rymanów, who for centuries contributed to the history of the city. Currently, it is partially renovated and its owner is Congregation Menachem Zion.
Recently, in Rymanów you can also visit the Jewish House - Museum in Rymanów, located at 2 Sanocka Street. The museum has recently been set up and there is not much exhibition there yet, but the owner, Mrs. Malka, tries very hard to ensure that the memory of the Jews in this city does not get lost.
