Information

The Silesian Sejm (also known as the Silesian Provincial Parliament) was a local parliament, formally functioning in the years 1922–1945 and encompassing the then Silesian Province with its competences. The building of the Silesian Parliament was built in the years 1925-1929 in Katowice. It also served as the seat of the Voivodeship Office. The building - the largest in Poland at that time - was erected in the neoclassical style. Moreover, it was the first parliamentary building in Poland, on which the Sejm of the Republic of Poland in Warsaw was modeled. The building of the Silesian Voivodship Office was to be a symbol of Polishness in the Silesian land recovered after centuries. Currently, the building is the seat of the Silesian Marshal's Office and the Silesian Provincial Office. It has 600 rooms, 1,300 windows and 6 kilometers of corridors. In its basement there is a spacious shelter and treasury. There is also an almost 80-meter long escape tunnel in the building, through which it was possible to safely leave the building unnoticed in an emergency. One of the attractions of the court building is the constantly operating, unique elevator. Its cabins are in constant motion and do not stop on the floors - you enter them while driving and special rails to ensure stability.
