Information

The Monastery and Palace Complex in Rudy is a former medieval Cistercian abbey. It consists of the gothic church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary - a three-nave Minor Basilica, a quadrilateral post-Cistercian monastery and the wings of a baroque palace residence added in the first half of the 18th century. The church part was restored in 1994-1996. On the other hand, the monastery and palace part, owned by the State Treasury from the post-war period, gradually fell into ruin. On August 15, 1998, it was handed over to the diocese of Gliwice. Since then, gradual works have been carried out there to rehabilitate and adapt the complex to the needs of new utility functions that the building is to fulfill. Currently, the monastery complex is the Formation and Educational Center of the Diocese of Gliwice. It lies on the Cistercian Trail and is open to tourists. The whole area is surrounded by a historic 18th-century park, which is connected with the Cistercian Landscape Compositions of Rudy Wielkie Landscape Park. Around the abbey complex, there has recently been an educational trail with information boards, an attractive playground for children, a large free car park and free toilets.
