The Mermaid Monument in Powiśle is located on the Vistula River, at Kościuszko Coast in Warsaw, right next to the Świętokrzyski Bridge. It is the last monument in Warsaw erected before the Second World War. It is made of bronze and measures 4.5 meters. The sculpture shows the figure of a mermaid with a raised sword and shield. There is an image of a crowned eagle on the shield with the inscription "Warszawa" around it. The author of the sculpture is Ludwika Nitschowa. The monument was to commemorate the coat of arms of Warsaw and contribute to the aesthetics of the Vistula boulevard.
