The Power Industry Museum in Łaziska Górne

Information

The Museum in Łaziska is the only museum in Poland that presents unique exhibits related to the energy sector. It is located on the premises of the Łaziska power plant in the building of the former switching station from 1928. The facility belongs to the Industrial Monuments Route of the Silesian Voivodeship. One of the most interesting exhibits in the museum are: a surviving fragment of a switching station with a Swiss high-voltage switch, which is louder during operation than a cannon, a war-era steam turbine, a pre-war biogas engine, measuring instruments, security and laboratory equipment, home electricity receivers, computers, light bulbs, tubes, electronics, fire equipment. Visitors will also find photos, maps, videos and documents there. The Edison bulb deserves special attention. The bulb was brought from Rhodesia, where it glowed until 1970. Bought at an antiques market by a Pole, it ended up in the museum. The bulb is lit once a year, on Epiphany during the so-called Festival of Light. It glows with warm yellow-orange light. Another interesting purchase is a suit for work under voltage. It was created by Bogumił Dudek from the Polish Committee for Energy Security. Its secret lies in a special material in which silver threads are used. They form the so-called A Faraday cage that protects the person wearing the suit from the effects of electromagnetic action. In the museum, you can also see the smallest book about the history of the power plant. It is 6.5 mm by 8 mm, consists of 136 pages, and has 2,134 letters. The museum's collections also include old computers, radios, telephones and even a telephone box.

Please note that ITS-Poland works with groups only (10 participants and more).
